      CMLink 30GB SIM Only Plan

Review of CMLink Singapore (Feb 2025) Below are strictly from personal experience. If you want more reviews, please go to Hardware Zone/FB or Xiao Hong Shu. (Application of SIM Card) Via website, using Singpass. Their application only accepts NRIC/PR/EP/SP or long term permits etc. No tourist passports allowed. I also opted for number porting at this stage. Just need to fill in your existing number, choose your existing provider (singtel for my case) and that’s it. More about this later. The SIM card takes a minimum of 2 working days to deliver via Singpost. You need to be physically present to show your NRIC etc. The delivery man will check. As I opted for number porting, this SIM card has a temporary number until your porting is completed. Regardless, you are supposed to activate this SIM card. Insert this new SIM card into your phone and follow the instructions to activate. It states that it needs 4 hours but in reality, it takes less than 1 hour. You will receive the successful activation notice via email. Once activated, you can start using this card, although it’s not your ported number. (Number porting) As mentioned, I opted for number porting from Singtel to CMlink. The instructions stated that it takes two working days and will be done during the hours of 11pm till 4am. However, the porting was completed around 11.30pm on the same day which I received the SIM card. I find this process extremely seamless and no action was needed from my part. A SMS will be sent to your CMlink card upon successful porting and the number can be used immediately. My old Singtel SIM has no reception by then. Out of curiosity, I login to Singtel app to double check, the message stated “All services under this acct have been discontinued from xx/02/25. The billing info shown below will only be available for the next 5 mths” This confirms that number porting is complete. (Wechat Mini Program) CMlink does not have an app to manage your account. You can manage your account via its website or via Wechat mini program, “CMlink_SG”. The wechat mini program is in chinese but it’s convenient as compared to the website, you do not need to input your number and password everytime you login. In China, the Wechat mini program ecosystem actually replaces a lot of local apps and this is one of it. Get used to it as CMlink caters to those who are frequent visitors to China. You have to turn on International Roaming at the website/mini program to enable roaming in china. (Cellular Reception in Singapore) CMLink is a MNVO, using existing Singtel Network. I personally tried 5G and 4G cellular receptions in Hougang, Potong Pasir, Jurong, Orchard, CBD, NEL/NSL MRT, Changi airport areas. All very good. Although I heard stories that MNVO reception is not as good as the 3 market leaders but personal experience has been very positive so far. (International Roaming Reception in China) This is the NUMBER ONE and ONLY reason why I opted for CMlink. Its generous international roaming package to Mainland China is unmatched by any telcos or MNVO’s in Singapore. The roaming also covers HK but not Macao. I love the idea of retaining my long time Singapore HP number, and roaming at a cheap rate to China at the same time. I am currently working in Guangzhou in my 12th year. So it’s important that I have access to all my favourite foreign appls like FB, Google, X, Whatsapp, BBC etc which are all banned in China. Even Straits Times and UOB, POSB apps are been throttled in China! VPNs are a solution but they tend to be unstable during sensitive periods, and their legality is a grey area. Not to mention that always having a VPN on affects handphone battery life. Long time foreigners in China knows that using VPN is a cat and mouse game in china; what works today may not work tomorrow. (happened to me few times). As I am the kiasu type, CMlink offers a cheap alternative. I have personally tested 4G/5G cellular coverage in Chongqing and Guangzhou. All good and fast. As my phone has dual SIM card (china iphone 14 PM). One slot is for CMlink and the other is a Local China Mobile card. At all areas of testing, both SIM cards display the same number of signal bars. One caveat though, CMlink tunnels all data to Singapore and back, therefore, accessing foreign websites like FB, Google, HBO are fast (though not as fast as you are in Singapore), but using local apps like Wechat, Gaode, Baidu may be slower as compared to using a local SIM card. This is also confirmed via Oakla Speed Test when the lag time is about >70ms when you ping local sites. However, for normal usage, I personally find that the lag time is negligible. Unless you are using ride hailing apps when response time needs to be fast, 90% of my data usage is via CMlink. Also, using pure local apps like 12123 (china driving license app) or 个人所得税 app is next to impossible if using CMLink. Switch to the local sim card. My package gives me 30GB of international roaming in China, which is more than enough for FB, Straits Times, BBC etc. But if you are watching Netflix, HBO or Disney movies, its not enough. Use wifi and VPN. (Customer Service) I emailed their customer service, to ask for default SIM PIN number and PUK number, their response is fast, within an hour. (Conclusion) The above is all based on personal experience. So far my experience in CMlink in China has been very positive. Dated: 20 Feb 2025

      CMLink 100GB SIM Only Plan

I have used CM Link for the past 3 months as my primary telco and here is my objective review. Hope this helps all those who are looking for a new telco. [Network] I port over from Starhub. CM Link uses Singtel network and I generally think Starhub's reception is better. That being said, no issues with CM Link so far with reception and speed. Though it seems to target frequent travellers to China, I find that it works well for Singapore use. More on roaming. [Overseas roaming] CM Link's greatest selling point is the ability to use 30gb in China, HK and Macau monthly bundled in the package. This is very good to have as you'll have access to google, IG, facebook via your data plan. You can't access these platforms on a Chinese number. In addition, there is free minutes to these countries. Very useful to call for your hotel bookings in China. All these usages are very carefully labelled in the website. In addition, their roaming charges are extremely reasonable. I bought a 10gb to Australia for $24. Saves me a lot of hassle of switching sim cards. It was more than enough for the holiday. Connectivity was no issue. I switched right away to China Mobile in China and Optus in Australia. Having compared roaming rates across some of the other MVNOs, I believe CM Link is very reasonable. [Customer Service] I tried calling their english CS once but it never got picked up. However when switching to Chinese, the call was picked up almost immediately. They were also very helpful. I don't believe other MVNOs has call service. My experience with SIMBA email was awful but CM Link provided me good advice regarding port-in over the phone. For me, if you can speak Chinese, CM Link really stands out against its competitors. [Ease of porting] Too easy. Port-in normally takes about 2 days I think and at night.. you'll realise the reception from your old telco simply disappear. I didn't do anything. Just applied online and they do the work backend. [Mobile App] They don't have an app which I am ok with. Too many apps anyway. I simply go into the website and make payment. The dashboards are really easy to use. You can see your data, voice and sms usage segmented by local and overseas very clearly colour coded. In my opinion, their dashboards are clear and simple to understand. I also log in once a while when overseas to track roaming usage and it's always been up to date. [Billing] No issues so far. You pay via the website using CC, wechat or alipay. Can also choose to bind the credit card. The e-statements are also in your bill history. SMS reminder and notification are sent to you for payment reminder and successful payment. Roaming subscription also confirm via SMS in a timely manner. [Summary] I love talking to humans. So if you are like me die die need phone customer service, they are a great company who also has physical presence at their Jurong shop. Their roaming rates are also reasonable with various packages. Website dashboard is also very user friendly. The only hassle is the inability to do online banking but this is a small problem for me as you can bind your credit card. For those frequent China, it's a no brainer. Free data in China and free IDD calls from SG to China bridges so much for those who contact China frequently. Overall, I rate CMLink highly as compared to other MVNOs.

[Network] Being on SingTel I don’t have any issues about losing network. Plus tried and tested using the bundled data in HK. You just have to select and lock CMHK as the roaming partner. Speed of both network are ok. [Customer Service] If you are an English speaker there could be some problem due to the Chinese speaking CS. they can speak English, but with an accent. Otherwise customer service is ok and helpful. [Mobile App] One area where CMLink could improve. There are no dedicated app to check mobile data usage. Instead have to go on their web portal for a delayed update. But the key functions are there.

It is excellent if you need to call oversea relatives & friends in China, HK, etc since calls of the first 100 minutes are free in the plan. It is always confirmed that google/facebook can be used in mainland via the data plan.

[Ease of porting] I didnt face any problems porting in from TPG, porting took place the same night as when i received my SIM, which was 2 days from my order date. [Network] This is one of the things i am happiest with, they are on Singtel's network and my connection is SOOOO MUCH BETTER. I signed up for their 70GB @ $20 plan, which i personally find, is a great deal cos it is more than enough data for me and i rather pay a little more for a stable and fast network, i can stream netflix without any issues while on train. The only thing is that having an app to monitor my usage would be better than me having to sms to check, not that it is that big a deal either.

      1. Network: Excellent signals strength, fast surfing speeds at most parts of Singapore, including inside the MRT. 2. Porting: Placed an order and received my SIM card in 2 working days. Porting was completed the next morning after I received the card. I was able to check my data usage 1 day after my number was ported over successfully. 3. Fee: No registration or delivery fee. The SIM card is sent to us by Singpost for free. 4. Mobile App: No mobile application as of Jan 2021. I have added CMLink browser to my home screen, and I can easily track my usage online. Alternatively, you may just text 'CHECK' to 75086. 5. Billing: The bill is automatically deducted from my credit card every month. A 1% service charge applies ($0.10 for a $10 plan). You may choose to pay by WeChat or Alipay. 6. Add-on: Cheap, cross-borders. 1GB=$2, 10GB=$10, 30GB=$18. 7. Others: A temporary number is assigned to you before your number is ported. You may start using the data immediately after you received the sim card. No excess data charge. You stop receiving data when you hit your limit.

Moving to China for work and being able to use the data there without need for VPN sounds like a heaven sent. Good too cos I have to make some calls to china numbers to settle some stuff before I fly over and the plan comes with 300 IDD mins. Thanks FB for targeting me haha! Bought the SIM during their Black Friday sale and had it delivered today. 100GB for $38 with some free HDL hotpot too. Sign up was quite fast free and delivery is by Singpost. So far the reception in my house is good, my previous M1 had poor reception in one of my bedrooms. Now waiting for the number port to be completed which according to the slip that came with the SIM, should be within 2 working days. [Network]
