Ohm Energy is an electricity retailer founded in 2015 to offer low-cost, competitive energy prices in Singapore as part of the Open Energy Market (OEM) initiative by the Energy Market Authority (EMA).

Other than providing low cost and simplicity in plans, Ohm Energy is also Carbon Neutral.     If you are switching to another electricity retailer in the current Open Electricity Market, the best retailer is Ohm after I had conducted a thorough analysis. It is using SP power grid with no disruption and has 25% discount off SP's regulated tariff. It has a 3-months trial too. Its bill is integrated with SP bill too. No security deposit needed. Special meter installation is not required. It has the most positive reviews online. Moreover, its customer service reviews are very high. Very smooth transition as they are partners with SP group. For instance, there is no need for any paperwork nor additional payment of deposit.

    The customer service is top notch, instead of weaving around different agents. I was able to get good advice via online. The online transfer is also easy. They are also flexible with different situation. For example, I can opt for the no contract plans if I have plans to move house in the next few months or so.

    Signed up with Ohm on a Fixed Plan Contract and it was easy to do that online. Took me around 3 minutes to fill up the information. Once that was done, Nothing else was required. I waited a week for the transfer to be completed and savings were on a average 25-30% off the tariff prices that I was originally paying for. The interesting part is that the bill - although comes at a 1 month lag, it still remains on the same bill and my giro arrangement is still there so literally, no action taken on my end. It's just easy and convenient to my liking. I also had some questions for the customer service and within minutes, if not hours - someone had replied back with my queries. Most if not all other companies need 5 days to get back and usually the answers are either not to the point or requires more correspondence. With Ohm, it is just easy and clear cut. If you can, you can and if you can't, you can't.

    Ohm has excellent and speedy customer service. I switched to it with no hassle at all because bills are still with SP power. It is more pricey than the competitors but the good seamless service is incomparable.

Auto renewal clause All of our contract price plans have an auto renewal clause when you originally sign up with us. However, one month before your contract expiry, we will send you a reminder email. After receiving the renewal reminder, If you wish to continue with the same Price Plan and contract duration, simply do nothing and we will automatically renew your Agreement. The contract will be auto renewed on the same plan with the prevailing rate(rate of same price plan at point of renewal). The reason why we have to autorenew you is because at any point in time, you need to have a retailer billing your electricity account. Our renewal contracts are extremely flexible. One month before your contract expiry and the first 30 days after renewing your contract, you can still choose to change a price plan, switch back to SP Group or to another supplier if you choose to do so without incurring a fee. However do take note that your new supplier may take up to a month to transfer you over. When you sign up online or manually renew your contract, do take note of the terms and conditions of the contract on your factsheet, early termination fees, renewal rates and duration. All these are built in to the sign-up or manual renewal process for you to agree and acknowledge. As our philosophy at Ohm is to be fair and tranparent to all our customers so the details are not in fine prints but mentioned explicitly during the sign up process. As required by regulation, standard price plans and non-standard price plans includes the key information required. The contract factsheet has detailed information such as: - Prices - Supply start date - Supply end date - Contract duration - Contract type - Late payment fees - Early Termination fees - Account closure fees - Security Deposit It is not compulsory for you to switch to a private electricity supplier so do go through these information to decide if any particular price plan work well for you. If the terms are acceptable to you, then the contract factsheet binds the terms that is applicable to you over the contractual period. Any deviation would then incur fees while you are in a contract unless it is an exceptional situation such as but not limited to: - Deceased accounts - Expatriate account - Special arrangements In such cases, we require official documentation for us to proceed your application timely. We cannot emphasize enough on the reason why we have early termination penalty on our contract plans. For every contract that our customers sign up with us, we have to purchase electricity futures for to hedge against the fluctuating wholesale electricity prices. For contracts that are terminated early, there are costs incurred to unwind the electricity futures contract. This is why there is an early termination fee clause in our contract-term plans. This is also the reason why do you not need to have generation plant in order to supply electricity to households. By having generation, that does not guarantee that your electricity price remains low. In Singapore, all generation has to be supplied and plugged to the grid. The grid is managed by SP Powerassets hence your electricity supply remains the same. By regulation, it is also not possible any retailer to buy directly from generation. All retailers buy direct from the wholesale market (USEP) from Energy Market Company (EMC). For more details, you can find the half-hourly USEP rates on www.emcsg.com

If you need to break your contract temporarily you may do so. There are a couple of alternatives. 1. We will have to charge you an early termination fee for this. Once you setup and switch your new premises over to Ohm, drop us a note and we will refund you the amount of early termination fee that we have charged you originally. 2. If you know the dates that you need to do so, you can choose to change the price plan to a no-contract price plan during your renewal period so that you are not locked into a new contract again. In order for us to offer you a Fixed price or Fixed Discount contract, there are costs involved for us to perform hedging using financial instruments for the duration of the contract. For every contract that our customers sign up with us, we have to purchase electricity futures for to hedge against the fluctuating wholesale electricity prices. For contracts that are terminated early, there are costs incurred to unwind the electricity futures contract. This is why there is an early termination fee clause in our contract-term plans and this is also stated in the Electricity Supply Agreement during the sign up process with us.

When can I renew my Agreement? You should renew your Agreement one month before it’s stipulated to end. You can visit your Customer Portal to check if your Agreement is up for renewal. We’ll also send you an email to remind you when your Agreement is about to come to an end. Agreement renewals only apply to Price Plans with a fixed Supply Term, like Fixed Ohm. Can I choose a new Price Plan once my current Agreement expires? Yes, of course. Simply log into your Customer Portal, start the renewal process and choose the Price Plan you want for your new Agreement. If you have forgotten your password, you may request to for a reset via our Customer Portal. A simple guide for you on the renewal process: 1. Log-in to your Ohm Customer Portal. 2. Select "Electricity Price Tab". You will be able to see if you will be able to change a price plan. 3. Select Change my Price Plan and will be re-direct to leave the current page to our website. 4. Choose the Price Plan and the contract period. 5. Click on "Change Ohm Now" and your information will be auto populated. 6. Proceed to the required steps to Verify and Confirm. You would be on your way to a new Price Plan. 7. If you need to refresh, click on your account name at the top right hand corner to repeat the steps. Can I switch to another electricity retailer or back to SP Group after my Agreement expires? Sure. Just get in contact with us and submit a transfer request via your Customer Portal. Please note that a transfer to a retailer other than SP Group has to be initiated by your new retailer. What if there is a gap between the transfer date to my new retailer and the Supply End Date with Ohm? We’ll automatically renew your current Agreement for this intermediate period. Details of this temporary renewal will be sent to you in a separate email. This temporary renewal will not affect your transfer to your new retailer. What should I do if I want to stay with Ohm, but I forgot to renew my Agreement? Your Agreement will automatically be renewed if we do not hear from you or another retailer. We will renew your Agreement using the same Price Plan and Supply Term as your current Agreement, and at our prevailing rate. If your current Price Plan is no longer available, your Agreement will be renewed using a similar Price Plan. Your new Agreement will start the day after your current Agreement ends, and we’ll send all the details of your new Agreement to you in an email.

Who reads my meter? SP Group provides all metering services and meter data management to all households and businesses in Singapore. When does my meter get read? If you have a Cumulative Meter, SP Group will read your meter once every two months. For the months when your meter is not read, you can submit your self-meter readings, or let SP Group estimate your usage. The estimated consumption will be adjusted in the following month when the actual reading is taken. You can see your next scheduled meter reading date on your utilities bill from SP Group. If you have a Smart Meter, your meter date will be sent to SP Group daily and consolidated into a monthly usage amount. How does SP Group estimate my usage? During the months when your meter is not read, SP Group will calculate your estimated usage by multiplying the average daily usage between the last two actual meter readings by the number of days in the current billing period. The estimated consumption will be adjusted in the following month when the actual reading is taken. The Meter Infrastructure in Singapore The meter infrastructure in Singapore is still owned by SP Group. They will continue to read your analogue meters once every two months. Each account closure and account opening must be administered by SP Group before you can switch retailers. How do I close my electricity account with my retailer? You will have to reach out to the electricity retailer in order to close off your electricity accounts. By SP Group requirement, you will need to provide us at least 7 business days notice in order for SP to arrange for an account closure date. Weekends will not be be applicable for the account closure date as mandated by SP Group. How do I open a new SP account? As the account opening for utilities is administered by SP Group, you will need to open electricity, water, gas and refuse with SP Group before you can switch to a private retailer. Any fees for account closure? There is a $10.70(incl. GST) Account Closure fee chargeable by SP Group for the termination request of your SP MSSL account, and for any subsequent changes to the account closure request.

SLRP (Static Residential Load Profile) The Static Residential Load Profile (“SRLP”) is a standard profile assigned to households, as they tend to have similar usage patterns, and vary only in the usage volume. For households installed with a Cumulative Meter, SP Group uses the SRLP, with weights for each half hour of a day, to approximate the household’s monthly usage to a half-hourly usage. This data is used for billing purposes. The SRLP is determined and reviewed annually by the Energy Market Authority (“EMA”). AMI (Advanced Metering Infrastructure) Currently, there is a nationwide drive to adopt AMI meters throughout the island. This initiative will most likely be completed some time in 2023. If you wish to obtain your half-hourly meter readings, you may opt to install an AMI meter in advanced. It cost $40 before gst for installation fee and is chargeable by SP Group. It also takes approximately 30 days to install an AMI meter. Once your AMI meter has been setup, you can view your half-hourly consumption on your SP Group app but do note that there is a 7-9 hours delay.

No-contract vs contract price plan A no-contract price plan means that you are free to change your price plan, switch your price plan or switch back to SP Group on regulated tariff without incurring any early termination fees. This means that you are not bound or restricted to any type of contract or period. A contract price plan means that during the contract period, if you wish to terminated your price plan while you are still in a contract. Termination fees will apply and is at $40 before gst per remaining full month for the balance of the contract. Simply Ohm Price Plan (No Contract/Non-Standard Price Plan) For Simply Ohm - You can think of this as Ohm Tariff in general. This is not a fixed rate. Instead, this rate is priced accordingly to market rate. The rate, as well as the monthly fee is subjected to changes (higher or lower) but we will inform you 10 business days in advance before we apply the new rates on your bill. As Simply Ohm is a no contract price plan, a monthly fee will apply to this price plan due to this flexibility feature. At the same time, if at any point in time this price plan no longer applies to you, you can choose to change a price plan or switch back to SP Group on regulated tariff at no cost. However it takes some time for you to switch out of Ohm depending on what your would like to do. A. It takes at least 5 business days to switch back to SP Group B. It takes at least 7 business days for SP Group to close off your electricity account C. It takes at least 7 to 30 business days depending on which retailer is taking over your electricity account. Market Ohm Price Plan (No Contract/Non-Standard Price Plan) For Market Ohm - Essentially we pass on the energy component and all third party charges to you without any markup. Market Ohm is a no contract price plan so we charge a small monthly fee for the flexibility of the contract. (Market Ohm is Wholesale Market Energy prices + all third party charges + monthly fee) Wholesale rates is also known as the Uniform Singapore Energy Prices (USEP), this is calculated every half-hourly and you can find our more about this at www.emcsg.com 3rd party charges consists of Transmission Licensee's Charges, Market Operating charges and Market Support Service Charges. We do offer a price-cap Option as going on wholesale prices means that you are subjected to price hike. This monthly cap that we offer is optional and can be added to your Market Ohm Price Plan. For less than a cent per kWh, you will never pay more for your electricity than you would have paid on regulated tariff (Energy component only) As Market Ohm is a no contract price plan, a monthly fee will apply to this price plan due to this flexibility feature. At the same time, if at any point in time this price plan no longer applies to you, you can choose to change a price plan or switch back to SP Group on regulated tariff at no cost. However it takes some time for you to switch out of Ohm depending on what your would like to do. A. It takes at least 5 business days to switch back to SP Group B. It takes at least 7 business days for SP Group to close off your electricity account C. It takes at least 7 to 30 business days depending on which retailer is taking over your electricity account. Meter Adjustments Meter adjustments are not hidden or fees. They result from the use of consumption during estimation months. For more accurate readings, you can submit your meter readings every month to SP Group. If you wish The current meter infrastructure is owned by SP Group. SP Services uses their meter readers once every two months to your premises to read your water, electricity and gas meters. Typically, there will be 1 month of estimation and the second month will be the actual meter reading. Any under/over-estimation in electricity usage will be adjusted for if there are any, once SP takes the actual reading for your next bill. The adjustment that you see, is the adjustment made due to bi-monthly reading. It is just that for Ohm, the adjustment is presented on the bill separately rather than being combined like when you were under SP Group. Different rates across some periods If you are on Ohm Discount price plan, the prices depend on the announced regulated tariff every January, April, July and October. Once the regulated tariff is announced, you can see that there are 2 different rates when your bill cross over the months when the prices are revised. If you are on a Fixed rate price plan, the revised regulated tariff will not affect your current contractual rate.

If you are moving house, you can port your existing contract to your new address if some of the conditions are fulfilled. Once these conditions are fulfilled, there will be no early termination charges and you will be allowed to port your current contract over to your new premises. 1. The new SP account holder must be the same person as the current Ohm contract 2. There must not be any gaps (i.e. sell the house and in between there are no location to port the contract to) 3. You need to open a new SP account and close the current one in order to make a port via moving house tab in our customer portal. 4. There will be an electricity account closure fee of $10 before gst chargeable by SP group 5. The balance of your contract period is more than 60 days. (If it is less than 60 days, do reach out to us and we will guide you on the porting process) If your electricity meters is inside your homes, you would need to be present when SP sends their meter readers to take your meter readings. Step1: To close your existing electricity account at your old address, drop us an email at least 2 weeks in advance so that we can arrange the account closure for you. Step2: Open a new SP account including electricity and you will be given a new 10 digit SP account number. Step3: From here, you can log in to our Customer Portal - Under "Moving Premises" tab, you can now port your contract to your new address. It will take at least 5 business days to port your contract over as well. During this period, you will be on regulated tariff.

1. How to switch to Ohm Energy?

Simply enter your electricity usage into their online price reader, choose a Supply Start Date and a plan of your choice.

2. Will my electricity supply be cut off when I switch to Ohm Energy?

As Ohm Energy is a partner of SP Group, your electricity will not be cut off as you switch retailers.

3. Do I Need To Replace My Meter?

Meters are not required to be replaced if you decide to switch to Ohm Energy. Smart readers will be available upon request during the signup process or through their Customer Portal. There is a one time fee of $42.80 (inclusive of GST) for installation of the Smart Meter.

4. Who to contact if there is a blackout?

If your electricity lines are damaged or are experiencing a blackout you can contact SP Power Grid’s 24-Hour Electricity Service Centre at 1800-778 8888.

5. Do I need to pay a Security Deposit?

Security deposits are required with Ohm Energy.
