korean is a popular currency as many are travelling there. Can this be included as one of build-in app currency?

Rates were pretty good, and very easy to use overseas. Highly recommended for travellers who are going overseas!

[Customer Support] While the Youtrip card is very easy to set up and use, their customer service and security features are SEVERELY LACKING. My card got stolen while I was overseas about a month ago, and the thief used up all my money deposited in my Youtrip account in 5 transactions just by tapping my card. I immediately froze the card, reported the fraudulent transactions to Youtrip and still NO REPLY or resolution from them 1 month later.

I have been using YouTrip since the launch. It has been a dream come true. Previously all my overseas spending has been charged a lot of hidden fees that was completely avoided when using YouTrip. Besides, I went for a 1 week conference in Barcelona and didn't need to use a single paper note of Euro to survive. Everything charged to Youtrip. Easy to claim from company and enjoy rate as good as money changer. A must have for people who loves travel

I used to be a YouTrip advocate, and actually got a lot of friends and family to sign up. But never again. Woke up to 4 unauthorized transactions, but had to wait till 9am to call the hotline because their hotline is only open from 9am. At this point the transactions were shown as 'pending'. Numerous back and forth with the agent yielded different answers, like since the transaction is not yet complete, I can expect reversal within the day to I have to wait 9-12 weeks for the investigation and if it fails, I will still have to pay $10 PER transaction disputed. Woke up this morning and not only was there no reversal, the transactions lost their 'pending' status, which I can only assume means they were completed, despite me raising the alert as soon as I could. Perhaps I'll get my money back after 4 months, but unauthorized transactions are quite common and the traditional banks and cc companies like amex are always quick to reverse them or issue credit. This was not the case with Youtrip, so I'm down more than $1k (topped up in anticipation of a trip) because their security system failed to flag these fraudulent transactions. Appalling.

Refund took 2.5 months and still not yet resolve. Initial an account closure on 11 Nov 2022 and confirming refund request on 14 Nov 2022. Customer Service mention refund will take up to 21 working days. 13 Dec 2022, wrote in for enquiry as I have not receive my refunds, customer service reply with them not having an approximated date. 2 Jan 2023, wrote in to them again as refund was not received after 1.5months of waiting. Customer Service say they will raise it as an urgent request. 6 Jan 2023 Customer Service stated that funds has been deducted from account on 4 Jan 2023 and expected to take 8-10 working days to be credited into my bank account. (What are they doing for the past 1.5months???) 18 Jab 2023 Still not yet receive my refunds. Express my disappointment in their customer service. (2 months has pass since initial request) Customer Service simply reply refund will take up to 21 working days after the deduction. (Hello?! What happen to the urgent request???) 25 Jan 2023 Receive a email from Customer Service to check with me if I have receive my refunds. Checked my bank account -> No refund from YouTrip. Why does YouTrip not know if they have refund to me??? As of today, I have not receive a single cent of refund and wondering if I would ever receive it. Can I involve the MAS on this matter?

Youtrip sucks. Their CS is the worst of the lot. There is a team manager by the name of Zeke. He is not only rude but does not even look at the details of your case when he calls back. They only know how to push users like us to contact the merchant to resolve issues that might be due to Youtrip's system errors. Why are the users doing the job for Youtrip??!! And they take 8 weeks or even longer to even come back to you. Pls pls dont use this card. The "better" exchange rates are not worth it.

      1) slow response 2) poor customer services 3) no update email until you follow up 4) giving you few select options but end up only one option is allowed by their internal team.

The security for this card is terrible. I used this card to pay for my car rental in australia, but somehow the company can keep making unauthorised charges to my card even after i came back to Singapore (they only swiped my card once for deposit payment). Worst is they cant do anything to reverse the charges or stop further payments to this company. They can only suspend my account and cant offer a reasonable explanation as to how this can happen.

      What are your thoughts?

This was EXACTLY what happened to me and I had to freeze my card to prevent further charges rolls eyes. They really need to do something about this

      How Does YouTrip Work?

      • Top up your YouTrip wallet on your mobile phone with any SGD credit or debit card for up to S$3,000.
      • Monitor and exchange currencies at your preferred rateas at any time. An alternative would be to utilise YouTrip’s SmartExchange technology, which allows automation in the exchange of current rates as you spend overseas.
      • Enjoy no transaction fees when used for cashless payments in-store and online worldwide.

YouTrip Review 2021: All You Need To Know About the YouTrip Card & its 0% Transaction Fee

YouTrip Multi Currency Account Wallet Reviews

The YouTrip card launched in August 2018 by EZ-Link, You Technologies and Mastercard. This supposedly magical card enables users to pay in more than 150 currencies without currency conversion or transaction fees.

Since I have some travel plans coming up, I decided to give this MCA a shot and applied for it. To my surprise, the card arrived within the same week.

      Set-up was pretty simple:

      1. Sign up online
      2. Card will be delivered to you
      3. Download the app
      4. Register and activate your card
      5. Link bank account to YouTrip account
      6. Top up your card
      7. Use for online/overseas purchases/bus & train fares

      Payments and In-App Exchange

YouTrip prides themselves as enabling users to

      • make purchases using your YouTrip card in 150 currencies worldwide
      • no fees no markups at highly competitive wholesale exchange rates.

The card basically replaces your trip to the money changer with the in-app currency exchange for 10 currencies which lets you store and lock down a good rate for currencies SGD, USD, EUR, GBP, JPY, HKD, AUD, NZD, CHF, and SEK.

For a list of the best money changers (both online and offline), you’re gonna want to read this guide here.

Apart from USD and AUD, the rates seem to be more favourable via the YouTrip card.

Is the YouTrip card a credit card?

No, the YouTrip card works like a prepaid card. This is great as it

      • helps you keep to a travel budget
      • is a safer choice for travel in case of lost or stolen card incidents
      • locks in up to 10 different currencies any time via the YouTrip in-app currency exchange function.

Benefits of using the YouTrip card:

      • Free sign up, no card fees and no minimum account balance to keep (as at 1 Dec 18)
      • Works like a MasterCard worldwide i.e. make purchases overseas and in SG
      • Spend in overseas local currency from the wallet at no extra cost (similar to UOB/DBS)
      • Spend SGD overseas with 0% transaction fee. This is good because:
        – MasterCard usually charges a 1% fee for Singapore cards
        – Banks usually charge an additional fee on top of this
        – YouTrip claims to use ‘wholesale exchange rate’, but so does every other bank when making foreign purchases
        – MasterCard Cirrus/Maestro rates are usually better than that of Plus! Visa
      • Top up via debit/credit card
      • If there is insufficient local currency in your account, the system will deduct the shortfall from other currencies in your wallet in this order: SGD, USD, EUR, GBP, JPY, HKD, AUD, NZD, CHF, SEK

For example: If you are travelling to Hong Kong (HKD) for holidays next year and the HKD is now low compared to the Singapore dollar, you can store HKD in the wallet for use later.

An accompanying app on your phone also lets you monitor exchange rates and transactions on the go.

This is a cashless alternative to going to the money changer and keeping cash at home.

      Some drawbacks of using YouTrip:

      • ATM withdrawal fee (overseas local currency from any ATM): S$5 (declared upfront)
        – DBS and UOB have regional partners that do not charge a fee
      • The minimum top-up amount is SGD$20 and maximum storage limit is SGD$3,000.
      • Daily spending limit of S$6000
      • Inactivity after 12 months (a reminder is sent at 9 months): $5 fee
      • Even with foreign currencies in account wallet, you may be subject to Dynamic Currency Conversion(DCC) by foreign merchants/retailers
      • One-way wallet. Can only empty it by using it up fully at a merchant.
      • Unable to get money back even with termination of card, so deplete remaining money before terminating
      • To avoid “losing” money, pay for your bus and MRT train rides in Singapore with whatever remaining money in the account
      • No termination fee imposed, but user will not be able to sign up for YouTrip again after termination

What other options are there in the field of MCAs?

Multi-currency accounts (MCA): UOB MightyFX, DBS MCA, Revolut
No txn fee ATM cards: CIMB ATM card, Revolut ATM card (coming soon!)

      Verdict:

Full disclosure, I feel like I have not yet fully exploited the benefits of the YouTrip, but it does look promising so far. YouTrip’s main page is pretty open and states their terms in black and white, which is important to convince people to park their funds in the wallet.

This YouTrip card is great for frequent travellers, people who love a life-hacking app, and people who believe in carrying no cash but just a card on the go.

Despite the inability to withdraw your money from the MCA, I like the idea that you can simply deplete the money in the account by paying for train or bus rides.
