What's the appeal of traditional telcos, considering how there are many new providers such as Giga! and Circles?

Between traditional telcos such as Singtel, and new Mobile plan providers such as Giga! and Circles.Life, which is more reliable/better? What's the appeal of traditional telcos, considering how the new players all offer much better rates?

On the topic of reliability, I think both traditional telcos and SIM only telcos are equally good as SIM only telcos leverage on traditional telcos cable lines. For example, Circles using M1 cable lines. Hence, there should be minimal differences in terms of reliability.

With regards to appeal, I personally feel that the appeal of telcos would be their "heavily discounted" mobile set which allows the user to use the latest set every 2 years or even on a yearly basis. Also, even though monthly phone bills may seem exboritant, many customers probably leverage on company discounts etc. to offset their monthly bills.

If you are alright with using the same phone for many years (and if it is durable) then a SIM only plan would be suitable for you.

Traditional telcos still offer lots of discounts for phone (under contract), but to balance this, your monthly fees will be higher compared to Sim only plans. Good for those who wants to keep changing phone every year or so.

I'm personally with a traditional telco, M1, but under their Sim only plan. I buy a 1x good phone that can last me for years, but have a cheaper plan so that overall I save money. Moreover M1 sim only plan has 1000 mins, 1000 sms, 30 GB per month, best for all worlds, though connectivity may be abit bad in some parts of the mrt, but overall not a big issue.
