Between traditional telcos such as Singtel, and new Mobile plan providers such as Giga! and Circles.Life, which is more reliable/better? What's the appeal of traditional telcos, considering how the new players all offer much better rates?

Traditional telcos still offer lots of discounts for phone (under contract), but to balance this, your monthly fees will be higher compared to Sim only plans. Good for those who wants to keep changing phone every year or so.

I'm personally with a traditional telco, M1, but under their Sim only plan. I buy a 1x good phone that can last me for years, but have a cheaper plan so that overall I save money. Moreover M1 sim only plan has 1000 mins, 1000 sms, 30 GB per month, best for all worlds, though connectivity may be abit bad in some parts of the mrt, but overall not a big issue.

I can't speak for Circles, but at least traditional telcos have functioning apps and customer service. If you use giga and something goes wrong, be prepared to waste 10-20 hours trying to resolve it but to no avail. Just stick to reliable service. It's not worth trying to save the few dollars when giga could just overcharge you (as they do) and not be able to get the money back.

It depends on your needs.

For me, I spend thousands of minutes on the phone each month. Therefore, call time is of value to me.

On the other hand, I tried my best to squeeze but use at most 7GB of data each month. Hence, data has a lower value to me.

Consequently, I'm still with the traditional telco and I'm comfortable with my choice. Besides, it rarely gives me issues like coverage or weak signal.

Here is everything about me and what I do best.
