I joined a new job recently, where this role is new to me as my previous job experience isnt completely relevant. I am still learning on the job, but I have the added challenge of learning to be a team leader for the first time in my career. I have been recently placed as a team leader in a challenging project that most experienced staff would also find it difficult to work on and lead. I feel like I might have bitten more than I can chew. What advise do you have for someone in my position?

Breathe, pause and plan accordingly. Take it a step at a time and seek mentor or experienced manager to help you navigate. HR usually have programmes available for new managers (typical in bigger company).

I don't think I can advise your challenges are unknown to me. Don't give up though. Jade need to go through tough polishing to shine.

When the going gets tough, the tough get going! There is always a "first time" in whatever one does. Remembered I was put to lead when started out on my career. Co-workers were older than me. Not sure whether any one of them were waiting to see my "good show", but I earned their trust and co-operation after months. Was tasked to spearhead many significant projects thereafter. No samples to guide, which many of us will try to get our hands on when schooling.
Anyway, to move things forward, be genuine that you are with your team to solve issues; and will be grateful to receive advice/criticism at work. Once reliability is displayed, you should be rewarded with respect, minimally. Above my two cents.
