  • I have used MSIG's car insurance for 3 years. Can't comment on the claims process as I have not done any yet. I chose MSIG as it covers explicitly covers driving carpool services, which I do occasionally. The renewal process is quick. Their rates are comparable with the online motor insurance companies, with a trusted brand and big presence, so I will recommend to others to consider them.

Types Of MSIG Car Insurance Plans

MSIG offers auto insurance plans under 2 names: MotorMax and UMax. Together, they have a total of 4 plans to choose from:

1. MSIG MotorMax

The most basic coverage. Repairs at MSIG authorised workshops only.

Recommended for:

  • Cars no longer under warranty
  • Second hand cars
  • Parallel import

2. MSIG MotorMax Plus

More extensive than MSIG MotorMax (eg. transport allowance, replacement car, loan protection). Repairs at any workshop.

Recommended for:

  • New cars still under warranty
  • Drivers who took out a car loan

3. MSIG UMax

Similar coverage with MotorMax but with lower premiums.

Recommended for:

  • Safe drivers with a good record

4. MSIG UMax Plus

Similar to MotorMax Plus, but with no loan protection.

Recommended for:

  • Safe drivers with a good record
  • New cars still under warranty but for drivers who did not take out a car loan

Choose MSIG UMax If You're A Good Driver

Like NTUC's Drive Master scheme, MSIG UMax is a way to help you save money on your excess. Especially if you're a good and safe driver.

To determine this, MSIG will install a telematics device in your car. You will be scored based on your driving behaviour:

  • Red (worst) - standard excess
  • Orange - standard excess
  • Yellow - 50% excess waiver
  • Green (best) - 100% excess waiver

This is the best way for a young and inexperienced driver to get around the compulsory $3,000 excess that almost every other insurer imposes.

You might also score a variable discount upon renewal of the MSIG UMax scheme if you have a good driving score - which you can monitor via a mobile app. Any kind of discount of your premium is better than nothing right?

What Kind Of Add-Ons Are Available With MSIG Car Insurance?

Want to add even more protection or flexibility? Choose from options like:

1. NCD Protector

  • Protects your 50% No-claim Discount
  • Maintain your NCD in the event you have to make a claim

2. Vehicle Service In West Malaysia (MSIG UMax Only)

  • Recommended for drivers who head up to Malaysia frequently
  • $53.50 to protect against theft, robbery, or break-in
