What's the role of insurance agent in making hospitalisation claims or obtaining LOGs with an Integrated Shield Plan?

I have a comprehensive health insurance plan with my employer. But I am considering an ISP, as any pre-existing conditions may not be covered if I switch employer in future. When I recently spoke to AIA insurance agents, they have mentioned that the LOG/claims process is always done via agents. Is this true and the process same across all insurers? That all hospitalisation claims have to be made via agents only? Is there an option to buy ISPs online without an agent, and also make claims online without a dedicated agent? Appreciate any inputs on this topic.

Hi there,

ELogs are an automated feature, which do not require an agent to assist you. It is between the hospital and the insurer. However, if you are looking for a cashless transaction for your treatment, or treatments that surpass the elog amount, then there is where an agent can assist you with that regard.

Claims process can be DIY-ed, but in your most trying hour, the last thing you would want to be doing is filling out forms to claim on your policy. That is where the agent would step in to assist you in that area.

Having an agent would definitely be better, provided they are able to advise correctly. In this instance, there might be some factual inaccuracies. ISPs are always purchased via an agent, as you need someone who has been certified by MAS to advice on health insurance matters.

If using your ISP, Hospitalisation claims are not done through agents. All hospitalisation are electronically filed (eFile) by the hospital, where CPF and your insurer will receive the claim. On admission, LOG is automatically (eLOG) retrieved by the hospital in the system. Unless u are not eligible for eLOG, or require much larger amount of $ LOG.

For post-hospitalisation claims, now most can DIY submission online.

If I'm not wrong, now only Income allows purchase of ISP online.

Speak to me directly if u have more questions. I am a former insurance agent, and medical concierge specialist where I've assisted hundreds of patients do hospital admission and provide claims advice.
