Student in Uni starting out. SYFE (Equity 100 and REIT+) vs DBS (RSP NikkoAM STI ETF)

Dear all,

I am a currently a student in Uni and am thinking of starting out on my investment journey. Have researched all about DCA and ETFs and REITS and have decide to invest in SYFE and DBS RSP.

My strategy would be to put $200 into SYFE REIT+, Equity 100 and the DBS RSP (Nikko AM STI ETF) every month for DCA. However, after reading opinions here in other posts, it seems that the general consensus is that STI ETFs are not encouraged?

May I ask for your kind opinions and whether my strategy is good for someone starting out and doing so for 10 years? Thank you :)

I think starting out with STI etf is great, can slowly progress to other etf like global ones once you learn more ;)

Even though its late but I just saw this question and so happen I just wrote a post on my ETF (SYFE) account. Which happen to experience a negative drawdown in current bearish market. It would be eye opening to have a feel what does it feels like to see your account drop since you are new, so you wont have a perception that its alway upwards. Do check out my post and take it as a "fun" read :)

I also agree with many answers here, no good or bad and it just depends on your goal, time and fiancial status.

I started out with Phillips Sharebuilder plan. Back then we didn't have robo advisors and barriers to entry were higher. I think it's good to have some form of automated passive investing whether it's STI or otherwise. A common approach is the 3-fund strategy for passive investing - US-stock market, world stock market ex US, bonds. Not something I'd done, but something I came across and thought was quite good as an approach.

When i started investing back in 2015 i didnt know where to look for help because i was stil a poly student, and back then investing wasnt as wide spread as now, everyone knowing the importance of investing. For me i decided to go with unit trusts that are being managed by professionals so i know that firstly, my money is in good hands, and two i have more time on my end to do other things rather than just cooping up all day to research. But of course always do your due dilligence on where you leave your money at because at the end of the day we invest not just for experience but also to earn money. 👍🏻
