I would like to find a way to get my dad covered so that in the event that he falls ill, the medical costs will not be too much of a burden for me to bear.

Hi Anon so sorry to hear about your family's situation.

Your dad does have Medishield Life available. As long as he stays in a subsidized B2/C ward, Medishield Life will cover your dad up to 100k per year for his hospitalization and surgical bills.

It is really difficult to get insurance for a past stroke patient as the risks are quite high for insurance companies to take.

Another measure you can do would be to top up his Medisave account if it isn't maxed out already and also plan to provide guaranteed lifetime streams of income via annuities. This will make sure that there will be a source of money that you can tap on for yearly medical costs above and beyond what medishield life and medisave can cover.
