If a person has recovered from schizophrenia, can they still buy/upgrade health insurance like the shield plan?

Shield plan has the strictest underwriting so is it possible for recovered mental patients to get it?

Hi anon,

You pose a good question. To be frank, the chances are low, but I would suggest that you can do a prelimary underwriting first. Factors determining the chances of acceptance include the severity of the condition previously, the medication, how long since full discharge, etc. If the outcome isn't favorable, the person is still covered by Medishield Life.

It depends on a case-to-case basis. You may wish to consider to submit your case for preliminary underwriting. Through this process, it gives you an initial idea on what you may expect from the insurer.
