Hospital plans are vital in everyone's portfolio. It is very likely that you would get one eventually. However, the problem comes when there are multiple insurers with different coverage offerings and different premiums. This is where I can "help."
Figure 1: Premium Comparison
Basically, I have extracted the premium breakdown of the various insurers through their ISP brochures and charted it onto an excel sheet. The data has been updated to reflect the NEW co-insurance requirement of 5% (with rider) etc. Hence, it would be easier to compare at what specific age group would you be paying what premium. When premiums have miniscule differences there's not much need for an alarm. However, when there are large differences in premiums, thats where you can focus and zoom in onto what that specific plan offers. It could range from higher claim limits to global coverage or it could be just bad pricing. The only homework that you would need to do is to zoom in on what each provider actually offers for that price point, subsequently deciding yourself on the value proposition of each plan.
Of course this would come in handy too for those of you who are advisors as it gives you an idea of what each company offers.
Here is the link for the excel sheet to be downloaded.
