DBS Visa Debit Card Review 2021

The DBS Visa Debit Card gives you up to 3% cashback when you spend a minimum of S$500 and keep your cash withdrawals to S$400 and below in the same month.

Here are the categories which you can clock up to 3% cashback:

  • Online food delivery: 3% cashback
  • Local transport (ride hailing, taxi, transit): 3% cashback
  • All foreign currency spend (including online purchase): 2% cashback
  • Local contactless spend: 1% cashback

Best of all, almost anyone can qualify for this debit card. There's no need for a minimum income to qualify and there's no annual fee either.

So if you don't qualify for a credit card (read: student) yet, this is probably one of the best debit cards which you can get!

This was once the greatest (if not, one of the greatest) debit cards. With 5% Cashback (+10%, if you were under the DBS/POSB Cashless promotion), It was such a good card to use. Spending $1000 a month entitled you to a whopping $50 cash back, and it is ACTUAL CASH, not points. This was until June 2019. The Cashback was lowered to 3%, putting it below some credit cards. This was fine, however, since it was for all Contactless spend (whereas some cards limit the rebates to selected categories). Then, June 2020 came and the cashback was once again lowered. This time, to a measly 1%. Being still on the 8% Contactless/Online Spend Promotion and the 4% Debit Card Online Spend Promotion, I stuck to this card until the end. As the cashback has been reduced so much, I have made the (painful) decision to stop using this card until further notice. I hope DBS will release an attractive cashback rate to entice me to use this card once again. DBS Visa, til' we meet again.

One of the best debit card previously! [Card Hacks] You will have to spent at least $400 on contactless monthly to reap the cashback of 1% monthly (was 3-5% previously). Thus if you do no spent this amount monthly, it may be best to seek for alternatives. Hope the cashback will be greater in the future!

Doesn't dish out many incentives for using it, but still remains as a good introductory debit card for the young ones as they step into the realm of contactless payments. Personally, as a student, I do not spend past $400 every month, which I believe many others do not as well. Hence, the cashback feature here is not applicable for younger users who do not have that much spending power yet. We would already be using credit cards to reap better incentives at that level.

This is my very first debit card and I got it during my junior college days. Application was easy and fuss-free.

Features & Benefits of DBS Visa Debit Card

The coolest thing about the DBS Visa Debit card is that you can still earn up to 3% cashback when you spend on everyday necessities like online food delivery, local transport, local Visa contactless spend... and the occasional online purchase in foreign currency.

      • 3% cashback on online food delivery
      • 3% cashback on local transport (ride-hailing, taxis, public transport via SimplyGO)
      • 2% cashback on all foreign currency spend (including online purchase)
      • 1% cashback on local contactless spend (via Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, Google Pay, Visa PayWave)

      There's one small catch though.

You need to spend at least S$500 a month and have to make sure that your POSB/DBS cash withdrawals are $400 and below in the same month.

But if you plan your budget carefully and track it to a T, this shouldn't be an issue!

Overall, the amount of cashback you can get is capped at S$20 per month.
