Amex customer service is good, with platinum services, it is fantastic. Being a AMEX platinum card holder, we sometime receive complimentary hotel stay, invitation to pre-launch event as well as a complimentary AMEX reserve card (you need to apply for it separately but is complimentary). On top of the usual benefits that comes with AMEX platinum card, you get the additional benefits offered by AMEX Reserve card. The annual fee is hefty, no doubt about it. However the benefits are not only enjoyed by myself, my friend and family too. The most valuable treat i enjoyed is the unlimited lounge access for me and my 2 sub card holders plus their guests. The benefits it offer are more than the cost, worth it.

Whenever I have chance to use Amex (bad points: not all merchants accept Amex), I’ll defintiely use Amex The rewards are worth the spending, great Lounge at the airport, great vouchers they mail me regularly on hotels and business class tickets. Lots of restaurants offer great deals too on amex

The AMEX Platinum card definitely have more privileges than the personal card because after all, your annual fee is almost $1.6k more than the personal card. On the AMEX Platinum card, you get $800 travel credits annually and even 75k membership rewards points when you spend $20k in the first 3 months. For the Personal card, it is pretty simple to earn reward points as well because you can get 2 membership reward points for every $1.60 spent. For this being your first credit card, I believe the AMEX Personal card would be more feasible as the minimum spendings is lower and the card is simpler in general.

They both have their benefits but if you are a frequent traveller, I would say the AMEX Platinum card is better because the benefits catered more towards travelling and foreign usage brings about more benefits than the CIMB platinum card. If you use your card for your overseas trips, you get deals like S$800 credit (S$400 air travel credit and another $400 lodging credit) as well as points and rewards if you use AMEX platinum card to book your air & lounge, hotels, cruise and car rentals. Not saying CIMB doesnt have their own travel benefits as they do have a 10% cashback on travel in foreign currency but just that CIMB platinum card may be more useful locally with its 10% cashback on wine & dine, petrol & transport, health & medical, electronics & furnishing at selected merchants.

Yes. Very high income requirement of $200k per year. You cannot force your way through, but if you income sits around $150k, you can call in and speak to them nicely. They might be able to help you on this. But no guarantee. Anything below $150k, they will not be able to do anything for you. Please also note it comes with a really high annual fees too.

Charge card requires you to pay in full the balance every month. Credit card can carry balance. The requirements and annual fee for the charge card is higher than the reserve card. Hence benefits varies as well with some overlap.
