Even as a Singaporean, I actually enjoy my flight experiences with the Japanese airlines better.
Given that I have travelled both business class and economy class on SQ, the service levels are markedly different in my experience. Some SQ girls can have an air of snobbishness on Economy Class, that can be difficult to point out since they are still technically polite. Whereas for Japanese airlines, I really can feel the warmth in their service, and feel like I want to reciprocate by being super nice back. That said, I do recognize that it is my own experience, and I am sure it does not apply to the whole crew.
That said, I once had a friend who is an SQ air steward make a funny remark of his female colleagues: 'These SQ girls get the job and keep asking us to clean the toilet, because they think their job is to sashay up and down the plane like models'.
Hilarious, but again I know, that's his experience!
