Should I cancel my trip to Korea in March due to coronavirus the fear of Coronavirus?

I’ve booked a tour trip to Korea for late first week for March. I’ve purchased my travel insurance in early January and the date is eligible for claim on Coronavirus( before 20 January).
I have no idea if the insurance agency will cover cancellation since it’s to Korea not China.
Should I call up my insurance and tour agency to cancel my trip or should I adopt a wait and see approach.
Tour Agency just called to request full payment by this week, not sure if I should commit.

I suggest that you check with your insurance company to see if the cancellation will be covered by insurance. If it's covered, by all means, cancel the trip.

If the travel insurance you purchased does not cover the trip cancellation due to the coronavirus situation, I do not recommend that you cancel the trip because Korea is safer than Singapore, interms of the number of people infected.

Yes you should call up your insurance agent to know if the cancellation of your trip is reimbursable in such instances.

Given that the virus is less rampant in Korea than here, I do not think you should fear that much travelling to korea in this situation. I think S. Koreans will be more afraid to travel to Singapore instead

Hi Jolyn,

If it s a concern for you, I would rather you achieve peace of mind and cancel the trip. The attractions will still be there (largely, since I am not sure if there is anything unique for your tour), and you can always visit next year.

However, other than China, there is no evidence as of this point of writing to suggest that it is spreading uncontrollably elsewhere.

Should you choose to go: In general, pay extra attention to hygiene and you will be ok. Wash your hands, avoid touching your eyes, ears and nose, wear a mask. Utilize a portable or disposable set of cutlery. Check with the travel agency on their contingency plans.

If I were you, I'd go ahead with the trip anyway — but consider:

  1. Wearing a mask (if you manage to get your hands on one) if you do go to crowded areas,

  2. Using your own reusable cutlery set where possible to lower the risk of cross contamination, and

  3. Minimising direct contact, e.g. handshakes. If you do, don't forget to use hand sanitiser after.

You should also definitely check with your insurance agency what's covered, and whether the tour you've signed up for will be tweaked in light of nCoV. For instance, does the travel agency have contingency plans?

If the thought of travelling unsettles you, though, then maybe hold off on your trip. It's your call.
