Firsrly is good to have some ideas and design of what you want your dream house to be like. I did a lot of work by browsing Pinterest, and renovation blogs.

i also went onto forums to check out for recommendations. Once shortlisted, I actually meet up with a few contractors and IDs to have them quote me.

By meeting them, you have a better idea on costing and you might even be able to bounce off your ideas from there.

with thAt, you should be able to have a clear picture how much your renovation will roughly cost you. :)

Since BCA has given the go-ahead on 10 Aug:

“With effect from 10 August 2020, all companies that employ construction Work Permit and S Pass holders performing renovation works (at non-construction sites) will be permitted to resume work. No further application is needed.

Construction sector S Pass and Work Permit holders can resume work if their AccessCode is shown as “Green” in MOM’s SGWorkPass app.”

Now that you’ve gotten a rough estimate of how much to expect, you relook at your budget in detail, and make necessary adjustments.

For example, how much are you willing to spend on renovations for your living room? Do you really need a built in TV console? Are you willing to slog it out and paint your own house to save on painting costs?

Of course, also consult a second opinion. Some people prefer hiring a direct contractor, while others an interior designer.

It’s important to know how much you are able to, and willing to pay for your renovations! You could consider a home renovation loan if you see the need for it.
