With SRS, how do I buy equities?is interactive brokers a good place to start? What happens if I'm getting REITS and they call rights issues? what do i do?

You have to register for an SRS account with a broker. If a REIT in which you are a unit holder has a rights issue: you can possibly 1) exercise those rights 2) sell those rights (if it is a renounceable rights issue) 3) hold those rights to expiry and not exercise them (but your percentage unitholding will be diluted).

To buy shares through SRS - you need to contact your broker and link it to your account
Rights issue - if you have maxed out your contribution, you won't be able to apply for rights
Hence most people rather not buy individual stocks using SRS which I believe in too. Would rather invest in ETFs/plans.
