Europe and certain SEA countries are still predominantly manual. Then again, what are the odds that you intend to live there in the longer term? The savings on manual abroad isn't as significant as one would think. And honestly, no sane person will ever want to drive manual if there is an automatic version transmission, especially if you are unfamiliar with the traffic behavior. Having driven across multiple cities around the world, there are bigger things to worry about than transmission savings.

I got a Class 3A license! My only reason was that I didn't want to have the risk of faiLing multiple...

I took my 3A license during my NS days.
Easier to pass. (I passed in my first TP)
Family car is an auto vehicle.
If driving overseas, sure you have to pay more for an auto vehicle, but for the risk of failing the exam, i'll gladly pay the extra.
