What happens to a person's CPF if they die? Does it go to their family?

It should be quite fast (within 1 month) if there is nomination being done. Hence this is the most important thing and yet so many ppl neglect about CPF nomination.

Public Trustee's Office

Assuming that you did not make any CPF Nomination, your CPF monies will be transferred to the Public Trustee's office for distribution in cash. The order and share of distribution will be according to the Intestate Succession Act in Singapore.

Take note that the Public Trustee's Office charges a fee for the distrbution and the timeframe is around 4 weeks or so.

CPF Nomination

In order to skip the complex administrative process, I will always advise my clients to do a CPF nomination. By doing so, it ensures that your CPF monies reaches your intended beneficiaries in a timely manner (about a week or two, depending on the complexity of the case itself).

Can You draft a Will?

Finally, do note that you cannot draft a Will to distribute your CPF monies. For the most part, only CPF nomination is allowed if you want your money to reach your intended beneficiaries.
