Trust Bank for Students 2026 — No Income Needed, Referral Code 2GG9T8K3 Still Applies

Most "best student bank account" threads here default straight to POSB SMARTy or OCBC Frank without mentioning Trust at all, which felt like a gap since Trust actually fits a lot of student situations well and the referral reward isn't restricted by age or income either.

Why Trust works even before you're earning:

  1. The savings account has a minimum age of 16, no minimum balance, and no monthly fees — you can open it well before you're working full-time.
  2. There's no income requirement at all for the savings account and its linked debit card, since there's no credit line involved. The S$30,000/year requirement only applies if you're applying for a Trust credit card specifically.
  3. If you're 21 but still studying or between jobs and don't clear the income bar yet, the savings account and debit card route still gets you the full referral reward — you're not locked out just because you can't apply for the card yet.

How Trust stacks up against the usual student picks: POSB SMARTy is the easiest first account for younger secondary-school-aged students and has strong parental controls, while OCBC Frank is generally considered the strongest reward-focused pick for poly and university students. Trust doesn't try to compete directly on youth-specific perks the way those two do, but it wins on flexibility — no age-gated tiers, no separate "youth" product to graduate out of, and once you turn 21 the exact same account can carry straight through to applying for the credit card without switching products.

What a student actually gets from signing up with a referral code:

  1. Savings account signup with code 2GG9T8K3 → sure-win scratch card, S$8 to S$1,888 cashback, no income check involved.
  2. Once you hit 21 and clear S$30,000/year (a first job or internship-plus-part-time-work income can sometimes get there), applying for the Freedom or Trust Link credit card under the same account setup unlocks the separate credit card scratch card tier, S$50 to S$8,000.
  3. Zero annual fee on both credit cards means there's no cost to holding one even if your spending is irregular around exam periods or semester breaks.

One practical thing worth flagging for anyone still on a student pass or without full NRIC-based verification: the fastest signup route uses Singpass MyInfo, which most Singaporean and PR students already have set up through school or NS registration — foreign students may need to go through manual document verification instead, which takes a bit longer.

As with every Trust signup, the referral code has to go in at the very first "Get Started" screen, before you're verified — I've mapped out exactly where that screen is, along with the current reward tiers, here: https://dlcuration.com/trust-bank-referral-code...

Disclosure: referral link, small benefit to me if you sign up through it, doesn't affect your own reward.

Anyone here opened Trust while still studying — curious whether you kept it as a secondary account or moved your main banking over to it once you started working.
