These are well-known names with strong price movements, which help create the opportunity to make money in the short term. I'm not sure how many of these investors understand the business that is behind these stocks.
In a bull market (as it has for the US tech market in the past decade), it is generally easy to make money buying anything since everything is going up, whether the company is good or bad. Only in a bear market will we see which of these investors have made bad picks, overleveraged etc. As Warren Buffet used to say - "Only when the tide goes out do you discover who's been swimming naked."
My personal preference is to buy stocks after understanding the business, the valuation and the future prospects of the company. Even if they don't shoot up in value like US tech stocks, I believe these companies make for safer holdings over the long-term as nobody knows when the massive tech rally will suddenly end. I write about these ideas on my blog.

Honestly? It just feels like they are buying whatever is popular/gone up the most recently. Jumping on the bandwagon is one of the most dangerous things to do in investing.

I personally think the investing style of Gen Z is fine. Call me old school but as long as you don't put in the work and get your hands dirty, you will never gain anything. If they lose money, that is fine. Learn from what happened. They have years to recover losses. If they win money, that is fine too. Who doesn't like extra cash?
We can now comment that oh they are being too risky, no diversification, riding on hype. But let's be honest. When we were younger, aren't we once like them? Seeing the trends, putting money into where we believe will bring us our pot of gold?
