Phua, a 34-year-old Singaporean, was sentenced to jail for three years and 10 months after stealing S$404,000 from Maybank's safe and losing the entire sum through gambling.

His fiancee encouraged him to confess to his wrongdoing and agreed to help him make full restitution by giving him S$404,000 in cash to return to Maybank thus reducing his sentencing as Maybank did not suffer any loss with the S$404,000 that Phua's fiancee helped to pay.

Its really disheartening to see people go through such means to steal money

I pity fiancée having to pay off his mistake. Was it really worth it to help an remorseless gambling addict? I guess that is up to her to decide.
