If I cancelled my HSBC credit card in May 2022, can I apply for a new card in June 2023 - will that qualify me as a new to bank customer since that is more than a year (12 months) later?

Seems like you are qualified, but do check with the bank for further confirmation on this in person, just to play safe.

Definitely, however some banks do keep track records and might still regard you as not new to bank. SC is one
