Term or whole life, early CI or CI, good to have some coverage. I have early CI for a whole life. I'm thinking to get CI coverage now. Will be more expensive now as I'm in my early 30s.

It is important to get critical illness insurance AND it is also a way for insurer to make money.

Insurers will come out with any product as long as there is a demand and good profits that is worth the effort.

It is also good to be covered by critical illness insurance because you never know if it will one day hit you and whether you can manage it or succumb to it. The question is how much you are willing to spend on it to buy this "protection" which may or may not come into use. Ideally we hope that we never need to use this protection.

You may like keep your insurance spending to about 1% of your take home income so that it is likely manageable.

It is important to get CI for not only yourself but also your loved ones. It can be seen as a commitment to foresake potential income if CI happens to anyone in the family.

I've heard so many different point of views

  • We have enough assets, if critical illness hits, we can certainly sell some assets
  • Children are not earning money yet why spend on any premium

ā€‹

But if someone in the family is not well, there's this hard question of giving up work, career goals, career progression to spend some time to take care

ā€‹

OR go on an unsustainable choice of both status quo in work and taking care of a sick family member.
