Technically a degree is an investment for more opportunities in your career.

The question is how good are you with investment. If you are not borned as a good investor, then it will take time. You will need a good job to build capital and find the right strategy for yourself. Hence, i think it is high risk to use your education funds to "invest"?

I don't think it is a must in Singapore. Yet society is based on merits, do keep in mind which field you are pursuing and check if you need to.

Degree is not just an investment so that you can get ahead in life and start out with deg pay of about 3.5k instead of say a dip or ITE pay.

It is an investment of training the mind, diligence and capacity that can be applied to your working life in future. I personally know of a few scholars who used to mug very hard and took up leadership positions in uni. They were offered very prestigious positions in the workplace and paid very well. Even though their jobs were very demanding, they somehow have that capacity to learn quickly, do work efficiently and handle stress pretty well. I respect.
