The question is how good are you with investment. If you are not borned as a good investor, then it will take time. You will need a good job to build capital and find the right strategy for yourself. Hence, i think it is high risk to use your education funds to "invest"?

You have to understand that you are living in a society weaved by a construct of paper qualifications. Having a degree is akin to having a key to closed doors with easier wealth.

Exploit that degree (milk the money furiously), live frugally, create side incomes and invest excess in strong companies. Do this consistently and you will become the top 1% in Singapore.

A degree is probably a necessity in today's Singapore society, almost everyone is having a degree and not getting one would put you in a less favourable position in the working world. However, depends on your work industry if they value experience more than qualifications, if experience is the only way to climb in your job then yeah you can consider not getting a degree.

Whether it is wastefull is dependant on the person getting the degree.
