Our house usage ranges between 200 plus to 400 kwh, still using SP. Tried the calculator and suggested that DOT is the cheapest. Pacific 25.5% now is the highest discount, but are there any other factors I should consider when choosing? Any recommendation and referral?

Hi there!
Generally, there isn't a best plan. For a fixed price contract, your contract rate remains the same throughout the contract period and the quarterly revision does not affect your rate at all. For a discount off tariff price plan, the regulated tariff is revised every quarter but you can be guaranteed that you will always be paying a rate lower than the regulated tariff during the contract period.
For Different retailers, they will have different strengths. For example, Ohm Energy provides you with the fuss free approach where everything is done online. Your bills are also consolidated and remains the same. Your payment arrangement also remains the same if you are on GIRO currently.
We do not think that rate counts for everything. Some of the points that you should look out for is:
a) If your retailer is responsive to your queries if you have any. Are they contactable.
b) If the sign up process is convenient
c) Terms and Conditions and if there are any other hidden clauses
d) Renewal Terms - You may be renewed on a worse off rate on renewal if you forget.

I think any OEM beats the current one. Which type of OEM plans is better depends on the market rates...

You have to see what type of user you are as well. If you are one who doesn’t use much consumption, not bothered about following electricity tariff changes and not prone to changing rates, take the fixed plan. If you’re one who have the assumption that future rates may decrease, you may opt for the DOT. However, I used to sell electricity plans for a retailer and I can assure you that OEM retailers cannot sell their electricity higher than SP rates no matter what. Also, if the fixed rates are anywhere between 0.16-0.17 cents, take that over the DOT and choose a 2 year plan over 1/3 years as your safest bet.
