I would like to find out how to know if assets value is earning or actually losing?

I have been investing in both Nikon AM STI and ABF SG Bond for almost 4 years. Every month $200 each counter will be deducted, and I plan to continue for another 10 to 12 years. I am doing so for dividend and eventually retriement.

Check through the historical purchase price and capital injected. Determine average price of holdings vs current market peice. Determine how much dividend you received historically. Then you will know if you are in profit or loss.
