I'm really confused as to how KrisFlyer Miles and normal Miles work?

I have 49k points in my Citibank rewards card and I was never a good, active credit card user. I just applied for Krisflyer membership, should I redeem my points for Krisflyer miles now? If I don't will the points expire? If I do, will the Krisflyer miles eventually expire too because I don't see myself managing to redeem it for an overseas trip unless it's completely free. Tickets on a standard flight.

Citi points or citi reward or citi miles are Citibank CC's own reward points.

You can convert them into KrisFlyer miles to be exchange for SIA flights.

normal miles refer to miles on any other airline, its a generic term to just mean miles (or "points") to exchange for flights.

Take your time to enjoy miles and miles reward cards. :) don't rush its not homework haha.

Meanwhile, you can use cashback since you directly get the rewards.

The reward points for Citibank Rewards card expire in 5 years so check whether they are expiring yet; if they're not, hold them until they're expiring then convert to travel miles? Because once they're converted to travel miles (in this case, Krisflyer), they expire in 3 years. I believe the current rate now is 5 reward points = 2 miles, meaning your 49k points is equivalent to 19,600 miles. That should be sufficient for you to exchange for economy saver return tickets to Bali and similar distances. After which you should really reassess whether your spending and your needs align with miles or not. If you want something more fuss-free, cashback credit cards may work better for you.

There's no "completely free". There's still airport taxes.

You're actually holding reward points, not miles. Citi ThankYou Points are valuable because they can be transferred to other frequent flyer programmes besides KrisFlyer.

That being said, Citi Rewards have a 5 year validity. KrisFlyer has 3. That's a total of 8 years - I'm sure you can redeem a flight.

Hi there, as shared below, Citi Rewards points can be changed into Krisflyer miles. However, do note that once you convert to krisflyer miles, it will expire in 3 years. You can "optimize" the expiry by only converting when your reward points are expring.

I think first check how much miles 49k can give you. Since Citi miles never expires, I will suggest ...
