There are a lot of AUD investment opportunities as the market is well developed there. The cost of conversion should not be a major hindrance to your investment plans as many platforms provide low cost or slim-spread conversions. What is more important is trying to match your assets to your liability. If you have future cash flow needs in AUD and need to keep it in AUD then that is fine, but if you have no need and all your future cash flow needs (your future liabilities) is all in SGD, then there is not need for you to take that FX risk of having an active overweight position in AUD. So it is not the cost of FX that is the problem but matching your asset and your liability in terms of FX.​​​

Conversion can cheaply be done via TransferWise.
