It’s natural to feel lost for some especially when you just entered the working world and you’re at the early stages of your career cycle. To help you discover you career aspiration, first understand your career Values, Interests, Personality and Skills (VIPS). There are many career profiling tools that you can use where they can provide a detailed report and one such platform is at www.myskillsfuture.sg. You will also need to determine your transferable and marketable skill sets which you can offer to prospective employers that would enable you to stand out from other jobseekers. These skills sets can be from your volunteer work or co-curricular activities while you are in school and from your internship. To gain better insights about the various industries and job roles, research on the industry and speak to friends or contacts who are in the sector to better understand what the work and culture is like. Finally, nothing beats first-hand experience. Don’t be afraid to try out different jobs, even in unconventional or new industries if you have certain level of career clarity of what you want to do. As a young adult, you have some time and space on your side to get back to track, i.e. the right career choice.
Consider speaking to a career advisor in your school if you have any doubts or come speak to our Career Ambassadors at any one of WSG’s Careers Connect centres at Paya Lebar, Tampines or Woodlands. Find out where at www.wsg.gov.sg/career-services.
