Feeling a bit lost as a full-time influencer, and feel like returning to the corporate world. WWYD?

Some quick facts:

  • 26 y.o. currently
  • Have been full-time influencer for 4 yrs. I have 28K IG followers, growing about 15 to 20% a year.
  • I make between $2.5K to $8K a month from sponsored posts, attending media events, doing hosting, etc etc
  • Easily work 70-90 hours/week juggling shooting videos, photos, writing sponsored posts, handling clients, etc etc

Because I depend on winning client deals, my income varies quite a bit from month to month. Some months I make as little as $2.5K, other months can go up to $8K. I have a condo loan, reno loan, and car loan to pay off, so this variations means I have to dip into my savings multiple times per year to meet monthly expenses.

I also feel a bit lost as an influencer, cus even though my followers are growing, I'm not sure if I can do this job for the next 20-30 years like typical career people. I feel like taking on a corporate role in like the media & advertising industry maybe able to give me better longer term prospects.

Recently, I got offered $4K/month as a media manager. However, this role is demanding and would require me to cut my influencer hours by easily 60 to 70%. The income stability will helps meet my financial obligations.

My family is conservative and feels I should stop my influencer "nonsense" and just get a job like everyone else.

Any advices?

You are surely doing great in your current endeavour by most enterprenuerial standards.

What you should probably consider now is to diversify your investments into some sort of multiple retirement funds from short, medium to long term.

Once these funds are up and running, you can decide to get a job for fun or just because, and not out of pressure. Best wishes.

You are probably feeling drained because you're owning a car and a condo. I earn more than you but I've neither of those.

if you have less commitment, you'll feel less stressful to earn more money And have the opportunity to do what you love.

I suppose you must be gorgeous, so you can perhaps find a sugar daddy who is willing to give you at least $5k/month allowance. You can continue your influencer thing full-time while having a stable source of income. No need to work in the corporate world also. Just like any other transaction, as long as buyer and seller are both willing and no other people are harmed in any way, nothing wrong.

Firstly, congratulations on building up ur follower count and getting recognition from brands.

I believe you are feeling lost because you are at the point where growth seems to be slowing.

Maybe you could try to get someone else like an intern to take on some the work you do not need to do personally e.g. scheduling/drafting of posts/editing. This way, you can reduce your load and focus on the tasks that truly requires you and possibly allow you enough time to take on a full time job for a more stable income source.

You could also look at ways to capitalise on your current reach by putting your content out on different platforms like Twitch, Tiktok or YouTube. If it turns out well, you might be able generate another income stream.

Do sit down, clear your head and make a plan. Growth happens when you're uncomfortable. All the best!

Firstly I’m not an influencer but I can imagine it can have as long a life span as you would like as...
