I'm meeting my insurance agent tonight with an intent to buy some policies for the first time, we don't know each other personally.

Since its your first time, take everything with a pinch of salt. Know what you want to buy first, eg hospitalisation plans should be your priority. Term/TPD/Ci will depend on your current responsibilities and it will vary with every individual. If the agent sells ILPs/WL (most costly) without understanding your situation then something is wrong. It is very difficult to determine whether he/she is good/bad till something happens. (touch wood) Trust is really important here and just temporarily remove the stereotypical image of a fi. All the best.

Actually first time meeting agent is good to understand more. There is no need to immediately buy on the spot! You should ask all the questions and by him/she explaining and breaking down the differernt policies, you will know if he/she is genuine good or just sales. If really the agent is hard-selling and to keep stressing you to buy on the spot, you can just give that agent a miss. Fyi, I purchase my policy on my second meet with my agent who is a friend of mine. Cheers to tonight!
