Do we read up before hand each lesson so we know what to expect ahead (where can I find info for each lesson beforehand?), or supposed to go to each lesson and learn during the practical lesson? Whats the instructors' expectations of us? How do I know each module or each module is about? Thanks!

They will teach you and then see if you understand before you move on to the next

I did my lessons last year with a driving school. There's no preparation needed but the school gives a booklet with all the skills required. Whenever you go for a lesson and manage a skill, the instructor stamps for that skill so you actually know what you are covering the next lesson.
Would just like to share my experience. I was assigned to a pair of instructors (Group A) first. One would take the morning sessions and one took afternoon sessions. BOTH were horrible. One shouted at me for not knowing how to drive in the first lesson and watched videos when I was driving during the subsequent lessons. The second would constantly take over the wheel and jam brake even when there's no danger involved. After 8 lessons (and a lot of money wasted) I requested for a change and got a pair of very very very good instructors who gave me lots of tips and even suggested things I can try practising at home.
Although the school cost more, I like the structure and i liked I could change my instructor when needed. I've heard some private instructor horror stories.

I learned in driving schools. I didn't remember preparing for lesson. I just went and learned from the instructors, who had the lesson structure.
