The reality is pretty much every cryptocurrency out there poses some level of risk and there’s a high likelihood that you will lose a significant portion of your investment at some point when you least expect it like the recent sell-off if you had bought at the high.

There are over 4000 cryptocurrencies but how many of them do you think will really be successful and that will actually still be around 10 to 20 years from now? The top 10 coins now might be dramatically different 10 years from now as the market changes. You can also consider diversifying your investment across multiple cryptocurrencies, instead of just picking one or two that you think might 100x and make you rich as fast as possible.

Personally yes, crypto is in for the long run, many great minds are coming together to solve our world's financial issues that eventually caused the crash in 2008.

One of those great minds include Elon Musk and I believe he's not into this for short term speculation.

Also the whole crypto market cap in trillion is an elephant in the room not to be ignored.
