• Not so good to pass them each others' quotes - but i think good to see how each ID tells you about the work and how they word the work differently. Just scan/take photos of the quote so you can refer to them, or just show a certain part when required. If the price is drastically different - there might be something wrong w the lowest/highest - find out what's wrong/different (is it they understand ur requirement wrongly?).
• If you can't tell what they exactly gonna do - probably you need to ask them - then give them opportunity to reword in a way any layman can understand, include the specifics you want edit/added to the wording. Spend time only on the last 3 shortlisted IDs probably.
• Carpentry - best if you could go on site to see their completed projects / minimally be shown some actual completed work of what you want.
