Have always wanted to get out of early childhood industry and make a switch to HR. have diploma in early childhood. Was thinking of taking those WSQ courses in hr industry. Has anyone tried those courses before? How successful was it to be employed? earning 3.2k, will I have to take paycut?

Funny enough, I was thinking of career switching into either early childhood or HR some years ago.

These 2 career/industry are rather different, assess very carefully if the switch is worth it and financially sustainable if you're very concerned about salary. HR job scope also have 2 extreme ends - administrative or people-facing. Hence, ask yourself first why you want to switch and what are you looking to commit for the next few years if decided to switch. This will help you narrow down the courses to attend and choose which HR specialisation (if required).

As a SC/SPR, skillsfuture has plenty of resources to help you. Start from there.

HR is quite a big place with many functions. For example, talent acquisition vs employee engagement/retention vs corporate development and probably many more.

Importantly, need to know, what HR leaders think a HR professional would need, and go and get yourself qualified and competent in those areas. Finding a job is abit like tinder; profiles already list what they want to see in a potential match. So just need to go and get it.

I would focus more on network as well, such as on LinkedIn, where HR folks are basically lurking everyday. Disclaimer, not a HR person, but perhaps there needs to be a little more specificity in what you really want to pursue in HR.

  • WSQ courses usually just provide a basic foundation for entry level
  • From jobstreet, HR officer (...
