Hi, a family member of mine was diagnosed with cancer 2 years ago. He had no insurance. However since he was serving his National Service, he was covered for all cost during the stated period. He is currently on remission and had no relapse since then. What type of insurance can he get now? Are there any ISP or CI coverage that he can get?

Hi anon,
ā
There's a better chance after 5 years of remission, however there will likely still be a chance of exclusion and/or loading.
ā
Underwriting and re underwriting guidelines have been evolving rapidly since COVID so in another 3 years we won't be able to tell what the criteria for coverage will be for a cancer survivor.
ā
I'd suggest doing a prelim underwriting prior to a formal application to gauge the chances. If coverage is declined, consider setting up a self-insurance fund that will provide monies in the event of CI in future (note: this is not the same as just setting aside money in the bank for emergencies).

Can try to apply, after 5 years remission chances are good. just apply and see. shield plan and life...
