I am in my early thirties and was recently laid off by the company. Job search for the past month has been largely unsuccessful. Am wondering at what point should I consider applying for any available position not relevant to my past working experience or look a temp roles.

At times like this, job seekers might opt to consider taking a contract role if there is a suitable one. The pull factor is significantly more important than the push factor IMO.
If the contract role is going to provide you with some experience that allows you the opportunity to either expand your network in the industry that you're interested in or enhance your skills, I think it is definitely worth considering! All the best.

I'm really sorry to hear that.
I guess it boils down to how desperate you are and the drive / determination you have in you. There are temp / contract / traineeship roles but if you were to make a switch of industries, you'd have to start all over, back to the steep learning curve, lower salary and slowly climbing back up the ladder.
Do think through carefully but always remember, everyone has got a time and place for anything. Even if you do make the switch, you can still achieve a lot. My 2 favourite inspirational characters - Jack Ma & Colonel Sanders Really proves to us that age isn't a factor to achievements. It's all about determination and opportunity / luck.
Hope all the stars would align for you soon!
