Currently, Singaporeans can tap into their MediSave to pay for inpatient psychiatric treatment. However, this is limited to $500 per year, and 15% co-payment of the medical bill in cash by the patient. It is also possible to use the MediSave of immediate family members ot pay for the remainder - up to $400 per year per account.
MediShield Life insurance coverage also includes inpatient psychiatric treatment (capped at $100 per day).
There are also private insurers that offer policies that cover mental illnesses. One example is the AIA Beyond Critical Care Policy, which covers five conditions - major depressive disorders, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and Tourette syndrome.
