Valuation varies from person to person. My personal view is you must spend sufficiently (a fair bit) to actually get enough miles for business/first class seats for a good redemption rate. You would want to clock at least 4mpd rate as well for miles. If you are low spender, cashback might be more practical since the time to accumulate miles lead to some degree of devaluation risk.
