Fee-Based Financial Advisory Manager at Financial Alliance Pte Ltd (IFA Firm)

After being in the financial services industry for so many years, I realised that clients choose to work with a competent insurance agent more than the actual company itself. This is because they want to feel that someone is listening to their needs, and to be able to give responsible financial advice.

Altogether, most clients look for three important traits, 1) Knowledge; 2) Years of Experience; and 3) Character. Above all, character forms the most important element that builds trust and respect.

I share quality content on estate planning and financial planning here.

Salaryman at some company

You will have at least a passable experience as long as:

  1. You know what you are getting into (know your needs, do your comparisons, read reviews, etc).

  2. You know how to say "No" when there are attempts to over-upsell.

I've had experiences with both. They were pretty nice. But I took a lot of control because I've been doing my homework.

Desirable qualities from them:

  1. They were knowledgeable.

  2. They were patient and answered all of my questions.

  3. They gave me time to think (I said I will get back to them and I did).

  4. They asked for the reasons for my decisions but they do not force me to answer. I was honest with them and told them anyway.

  5. Little upselling. I believe it's their duty to inform clients of the variety of products available. However, they do not hog my time or compel me to make decisions on the spot. It's very appreciated.

What kind of follow-up are you looking for...?
