Generally, the premiums for personal accident plans will differ based on your occupation. This is because of the different risk profiles for various occupations.
Most insurers will group the occupation into 4 different classes. - Class 1 to Class 4 - with Class 1 being the least and Class 4 being the most dangerous.
Class 1 are usually skilled white-collar workers while Class 2 are semi-skilled workers or those working partially in an outdoor setting. All insurers that provide personal accident insurance will offer coverage for these occupations.

Class 3 are workers who have some exposure to hazardous conditions, like machinery, while Class 4 are usually unskilled or high-risk labor or work involving heavy machinery. Due to the higher risk involved, the premium for these occupations is generally higher. Some insurers might also not provided personal accident insurance for these occupations.

Hi anon,

While accidents, by nature, are unintentional and not premeditated, there are some types of occupation, by their very nature, expose the person to a higher frequency or possibility of getting into an accident.

A desk bound job is relatively safe and you might just have a normal risk of say, tripping and spraining an ankle when walking around the office.

A person regularly working at height such as a painter, although having the same risk of tripping, might be subject to more severe injuries if the trip leads to him falling from height. Much more likely to have a fracture than just a mere sprain.

Then you have some occupations that are just not insurable, such as shipyard manual workers, where the risk is just too high for even insurers to evaluate and manage.
