What would you do if you're asked for reference contacts during job application, but don't have a good one to give?

What's the reason? Bad blood with current co? fresh grad?

mostly understandable if you're a fresh grad. But if you have worked for a few years and with no ref check, that's potentially a big problem. closest way is to get your colleague that u have good relationship with to help!
