What would you be willing to pay a more premium price for? Or should you just pick the most financially prudent product always?

Sometimes in buying insurance, or even in smaller things like buying toilet paper, it doesnt really make sense financially to buy a premium product due to it being so much more expensive than its lesser counterparts. However, in which scenarios would you follow your gut feeling and look past the lack of rationality simply because you feel the premium product is better?

I will pay a premium for medical services. In the event of an illness, I want to know that I'm receiving the best treatment possible. This is why it is important to purchase hospitalization and critical illness insurance so you can afford the best care in the unfortunate event that you require medical treatment

The main thing I'm definitely willing to pay a premium for is food. I usually pick the most financially prudent option with usables like clothes etc.

In terms of insurance, its best to compare the payouts and T&Cs to find the best value product.

I'm willing to pay a premium for:

  • health: healthy food, exercise
  • a peace of mind: good hospitalisation insurance, decent CI coverage
  • the occasional things that make me happy: trips, some clothing and bags

Essentially value is subjective and 'premium products' are usually not value for money but a lot of people still buy them. The easiest example would be mobile phones...how many people in Singapore still buy Samsung and Apple phones even though the specs do not justify the premiums paid.

So just be rational when you can but not to the extent where it makes you miserable.

See what you want. I think for those important one such as safety and security. It is a must to go for the premium. But for those daily use stuff like toothpaste, toilet paper all those, as long as i feel comfortable when i use it, I'm good. Not necessarily to buy the expensive ones.

As long as it affects health and safety, i will prefer premium.
