What do you often splurge on, and why?

Separating between needs and wants can often be in a grey area. Let's share some of the things that you often splurge on, and reasons which you think you wanna do that.

I can possibly narrow down my splurging into 2 categories:

1. Nutritious Food (Needs)

This one is very important to me. I classify this to be a need because I know that by splurging on healthy, nutritious food, I am saving on my health bill. I go for organic stuff usually (but occasionally guilty of eating fast food too, hard to resist good french fries) but besides that, I try my best to eat healthy. Change my diet from rice to quinoa, eliminate bread, substitute sugar to honey etc.

I see this as a long term investment to myself, so I don't necessarily consider this as a splurge BUT I have to admit that it can be rather expensive when you're going for organic produce as compared to those available in the markets but not healthy.

2. Travel (Wants)

I do set aside finance for 2 - 3 trips annually. Sometimes short trips like Thailand, Bali or if time permits, to further countries. This is an expensive want but I always have that mentality that money can always be earned so now that I can enjoy, should be able to do that for myself :)

The rest of my spending is day to day activities which can definitely be controlled so I wouldn't consider them to be a splurge :)

I hardly spurgle on things. The most ex thing I have bought so far is my mid-tier gaming pc. Hardly buy clothes. Money goes to food and transport.

What I choose to spend more on is supported by two main things:

Good Health x Quality Time with Loved Ones

Good nutrition: I do try to get the most nutrient-dense foods 80% of the time. While literature and research on what foods are good/bad is changing all the time (Keto/Paleo/Gluten-free etc etc) - basic principals such as getting good fibre and healthy fats still remain.

Example: I would spend on blueberries, but not blueberry cheesecake.

That said, eating healthy does not mean it has to be expensive. For example, sweet potatoes are relatively healthy, and does not cost much.
Travel with loved ones: I definitely would spend for holidays with loved ones. I try to take my dad overseas at least once or twice a year, and I don't hesitate to do so as I know that we are both exploring the world, gaining new experiences and creating memories.

Exercise: I used to be on Guavapass and I found it to be a worthwhile expense, because I managed to get fit and more importantly, learn what proper form is from various teachers. Invest in your physical fitness and strength - it will serve you in the long run.

Hobby that bring joy: I am a competitive Latin dancer (as a hobby), and private classes are not cheap - but for me it is worth it as it truly brings me joy. Of course, what brings joy is different for everyone, so it's always good to find out what yours is!

1) Travel - I really enjoy travelling. Can learn new things along the way as well

2) Food - I like dining and trying different cuisines. Food is also one of my biggest expenditure when I travel.

3) Technology - not as extreme as some people I know. Mostly limited to the basics like phone and laptop. However I dont mind paying for things that make me more efficient, which is why I splurge on Apple products because I like my phone and laptop to sync - its quite seamless.

4) Facials - trying to stop because I know its a splurge. Signed a package when I had a breakout. Now i feel it may not have been worth the while. will not renew.

Things I spend a lot of time on daily, mostly tech - mobile phone, laptop, earphones, speakers, lapt...
