Share your retirement planning strategies?

Hi Seedly people! I'm curious to know what everyone's retirement strategies are. (☕ Taking a quick coffee break today to participate in the Seedly community!)

Personally, as an ex-financial consultant and a personal finance enthusiast, I believe there's never one solution that fits everyone.

Two people working in the same industry, drawing the same salary, and living very similar lifestyles can require vastly different retirement plans.

So, what's yours? 👵 No judgement please!

Noob at Idiots Invest

Hallo

I'm in my late 20s.

As a professional in a non-finance industry, I know close to nothing about finance and investment. (Also because I started late, and day job gives me little time to actively learn or manage.) But as a professional from a non-finance industry, I also know how frustrating it is when "clients" geh kiang and try to DIY with little to no knowledge.

My investment philosophy is, since I don't know anything, I'll leave it to the professionals. I invest mainly through a mix of advised portfolios (vested in equity funds and FX) with overall aims to generate moderate to outsized returns. By doing this, whatever little time I have, I can read up to learn more and then improve my strategy further.

As my liabilities are still relatively low now, I'm aiming to reduce cash drag (first learnt of this term from Endowus and their webinars) and funnel as much net worth into investment - in anticipation of a day when I'll have a lot of other things eating up my cashflow (house, kids, etc).

Because I started investing late, I'm a lot more aggressive with carving out chunks of my salary for investment.

Having said that, I believe it's also important to enjoy life now and that it's also a mistake to have "saved too much for retirement".

I hope someone here sees and learns from my mistake (i.e., start early)!

Turning 41 this year.

Hoping to retire at 62 with targetted spending of $3k every month

My strategy thus far:

1) Paid off my housing loan. Being free-spirited, I still harbour hopes of living in a foreign country for stints of 1-2 years, so I rather not have a housing loan weighing on my mind, as low as bank interest rates are these days.

2) Topping up CPF SA account and refunding OA money used to pay for my flat ever so regularly. Hoping to hit FRS within this year or next year

3) Earning kopi money with spare pockets of time to cut down on expenses and stretch every dollar so that I can contribute to my CPF & SRS accounts more often. Will probably continue with such habits until I reach ERS.

4) DCA-ing into Stashaway & Syfe. Will increase DCA amount once I hit FRS.

5) Contribute $200 every month into son's CDA account so that his college fees will not be my burden in future. Similarly, top up my wife's CPF account so that her needs won't be my source of concern in future.

6) Hoping to find opportunities as a freelance writer so that I can dazzle the world with my brilliant and funny writing with articles such as "How I Make Money Every Minute"

As you can probably infer, I have dependents, so my strategy is to secure my CPF nest egg before I look into investing money in the market. (Yes, I made my CPF nomination.)

And what's your strategy, Cherie? :)
