It seems like the finance industry is dying. What do I do next as a career?

As we don't know your background, it is a hard to provide you a personalised piece of advice.

Generally, technology related jobs would give you a decent cushion for the next 10 years. I am myself moving in and out of technology and non-technology companies, and it is fundamentally key to have a business understanding of emerging technologies.

Three points to explore:

First

Popular example: Blockchain.

While you don't have to force yourself to be a blockchain technology expert, being able to understand how it works and how to apply it to business applications would give you a good starting point. Replace "blockchain" with any latest buzzword.

Second

T-Shaped Skillsets

Assuming you are from the finance industry, what are your options?

Do you wish to move out completely from the finance industry - what are the hard and soft skills that you could port over?

• What are the skills you already have that you could readily apply to your new industry?

• For which skills (whether hard or soft) are you in the Top 10% in your country? Or can aspire to be in the Top 10% in your industry or in your country?

Third

All industries are going through changes, rapid. Consider how to adapt to changes as a key career goal.
