To maintain the sustainability, the airlines would revise the reward chart, adjust the redemption rate accordingly in that sense.
however, the supply and demand of the flight seats varies and hence the economy situation would auto-correct itself. Of course unless we are talking about a sudden huge influx of people just started doing the miles game then it might be different story

I feel the banks still find it sustainable for now.
While it is true that with more people in the game, there may be fewer seats to redeem, but if we take time to explore this game, it is really quite deep and it's not just SQ that we can fly on. So if we allow ourselves to broaden our search, SIN to TYO isn't just a ANA or JAL or SQ flight award. I've done that in SQ-Asiana which was pretty cool as I got to visit the Asiana lounge in ICN.
Likewise, if air travel continues to grow, the number of award seats on flights should increase in tandem with increased capacity. We just need to see if air travel growth outpaces the growth of people in this game :)

Demand for the seats are always there.
Banks will provide more promotion to entice user to use their cards to get miles.
