There are some quarters who only believe in S&P500 and nothing else (not even QQQ or RUT). What are your views if someone wants to do passive investing? Would you advise some allocation into perhaps gold, or small caps, etc and rebalance as and when required?

Investors should definitely diversify. The US market is slightly inflated at this point even though certain sectors may still have legs to walk, and one has to brace oneself for a potential drawdown in the US market in the next few years. We believe diversification is the best method of ensuring long-term consistent returns to an investorβs portfolio.

I know of ppl like dat, but u gotta understand dat those ppl hav other assets and investments. so even if they lose 100% of S&P500, they still hav their businesses, venture capital, etc, or they culd be hav a long/short strategy which u may not know, or they do not tell. Totally agree with the others here - shld diversify.
and its good to be skeptical of any advise.
